Concept design is the ideation – it’s where the magic happens, where we culminate all our ideas, knowledge and experience to design a unique concept for our client – it is where you see Hygge Design principles come to life and carefully integrated with our clients’ unique story and home.
Whilst we are focusing on showing you the concept of the bathrooms, it should be noted that we have considered and designed the whole house as one cohesive design. Considering all spaces from the beginning, both inside and out is paramount for a successful outcome.
So how do we come up with our concepts? After listening to our clients, visiting the home, researching and gathering a lot of information, we begin with brainstorming the ‘Big Ideas’.
The ‘Big Ideas’ are a combination of visual images and language that describe the feelings and emotions we are wanting to deliver in a project. Some cues and touch points are obvious in homes, but others might not be. At Pointside, an obvious big idea is ‘connection to nature’, whilst the words ‘Copenhagen Apartment’ are definitely not as obvious for an outsider. Designing for myself, I want to tell more of our story and incorporate more meaningful connections, to create a home that essentially is ‘us’ that is full of memories, that is warm and welcoming and ultimately makes us feel happy in our home. Those that know me well, are probably not surprised that old Danish homes and Danish design principles are some of Pointside’s ‘Big Ideas’.
My little Danish bird sparked a palette of warmth and moody tones for the design, where walnut timbers will feature throughout in joinery and furniture. Natural materials such as quartzite, limestone, timber and antique brass will be seen throughout for a cohesive palette. Layers of Blues will primarily be seen throughout the house, with greens to be seen as a secondary layer of colour. Our ultimate goal is to create a home that encourages connection; that is comfortable and welcoming and endures the test of time.
Nature – I walk here along the trails most days and this moody image is the perfect inspiration for a concept, with layers of blues and greens – nature always comes up with the goods!
Stemming from the overall mood and big ideas above, below is the mood board for the bathroom we are currently renovating, sitting beside some wallpaper that we recently found:
I find it quite amazing that the palette of the wallpaper is very much what we had already selected! It must be meant to be!
Join us next time as we dive into the details and how we will apply the materials- which tile where; joinery for the vanity; lighting etc
Thanks for taking the time to read, have a great weekend everyone!
