Whilst the recent warmer weather has been wonderful, I am always ready to welcome Autumn and more hygge! The colours of Autumn have always been a favourite of mine. Those warm and earthy colours reflecting the leaves- burnt orange, mustard, ochre, caramel and olive green- they bring on such a cosy feeling. Autumn symbolises immense change- we feel the temperature shift from warm to cool, the days grow shorter and we witness the crunchy leaves falling from the trees. The once bright colours begin to fade and nature gets ready for winters’ sleep.
In the images below, I vividly recall this Autumn day with my cherubs, running, stomping and collecting leaves, then painting at home – moments of hygge.
In design terms, we also see a shift in colours, materials and texture. We tend to spend more time indoors- here at Hygge Design, candles become a daily ritual. Whilst on the weekends, snuggling up with a blanket near the fire with a good book, is one of life’s simple pleasures to enjoy savour.
Here are a few of our favourite items we are loving right now from Capra Designs, Great Dane, Waverley Mills and Designstuff:
Whilst in Denmark, they are embracing Spring and enjoying a lighter colour palette of light blue, lilac and terracotta. Here are some of favourite pieces just released in Europe from HAY:
It is hard to believe that Easter is next weekend- I hope you savour this time with family and friends. We believe good food and design go hand in hand, so if you are looking for something to do, here are some of our favourite places in the High Country of Victoria, to wine, dine and immerse in design:
A little further up the road, head to Mansfield and experience Delatite Wines – Architecture by Lucy Clemenger
For a good dose of nature, Paradise Falls in Whitfield are a must see
Still in the High Country- Chrismonts Winery is also an award-winning building, coupled with incredible food and views.
Closer to home- the Triennial exhibition at the NGV is a must – it is also free and has a great kids’ experience too.
For a healthy dose of art and design, head on over to Heide Museum in Heidelberg, were they have stunning gardens and also monthly markets.

I am looking forward to this new book landing in my lap – whilst traditionally, Scandinavians love a neutral palette, we have seen a surge in colour the last few years, in their cool Scandi way and we are fully embracing it!
In the Studio…
We are looking forward to seeing an Autumn inspired design come to life. We will be hosting several events here in the studio over the next few months and busy preparing for these, so keep your eye out for more info!
We are also in the midst of designing several homes and currently focusing on their kitchens, our favourite spaces to design! And finally, we are thrilled to start another heritage project, where we will infuse the new with timeless design, to tell the story of this character-filled home.
Agi and I wish you a very Happy Easter with family and friends, may it be filled with hygge and happiness and chocolate of course!
